Stocks

Direct equity ownership for growth, dividends, and long-term wealth building.

Owning a piece of the business.

A stock is a tiny share of a real company—its assets, profits, and future. Over the long run, equities have outperformed almost every other broadly available asset class. But ownership comes with volatility, and the way stocks fit into your portfolio matters more than which stocks you pick.

Where stocks fit in your plan

  • Growth engine. For investors with a long time horizon, equities do the heavy lifting.
  • Dividend income. Quality dividend-paying stocks can generate income that grows over time.
  • Tax efficiency. Held long-term, qualified dividends and long-term gains are taxed favorably.

How I think about individual stocks vs. funds

Most of the time, broad diversification (ETFs, funds, SMAs) does the job at lower cost and lower risk. Individual stocks have a place—concentrated employer holdings, long-held positions with embedded gains, specific tax-loss harvesting plays—but they’re rarely the whole picture for most clients.
